Met Office issues thunderstorm warning for Newark area

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Newark and the surrounding area, predicting heavy thunderstorms and showers on Tuesday afternoon.

The yellow warning encompasses a wide region, stretching from Middlesbrough to Manchester and down to Leicester and Peterborough.

It is predicted to last from 2pm to 7pm, and further weather warnings are also in place for the north of the country into Wednesday.

The warning spreads across the East of England.

According to the Met Office, these thunderstorms may result in torrential downpours, posing significant travel disruptions and a potential risk of flash floods.

Residents should anticipate spray and sudden flooding, leading to difficult driving conditions and potential road closures.

Some communities could become isolated by flooded roads, and there is a slight chance of power cuts affecting homes and businesses.

The Met Office also cautions about the risk of fast-flowing or deep floodwater, which could endanger lives.

Driving during thunderstorms should be avoided if possible. If you must drive, slow down, use main roads, and maintain a larger gap between vehicles.
