Aston Villa in transfer race to sign ‘supreme’ playmaker who’s just like Bernardo Silva

Aston Villa will soon turn their attention to the summer transfer window, with one target already rumoured to be of interest to Unai Emery and Monchi.

Unai Emery must ensure that Aston Villa’s progression doesn’t stall next season, making the upcoming transfer window a crucial part of the squad’s development.

The Villans secured their first top-four finish in the Premier League since the 1995/95 campaign, subsequently earning the right to play in the Champions League next term.

It was a remarkable yet deserved feat for Emery’s side, who maintained top standards throughout the 2023/24 calendar, setting a club record points tally in the Premier League.

While Villa will still be in party mode for their achievements, Emery and Monchi will soon get to work at acquiring fresh talent to bolster the quality on show at Villa Park, with one name surfacing as a player of interest to several top-flight sides.

Aston Villa join Premier League rivals in the race to sign Matias Soule

As reported by Italian outlet CalcioMercato, Villa are one of the sides interested in Juventus winger Matias Sule, who is attracting interest from all over Europe.

The report claims that Napoli, Roma, Newcastle United, and Southampton are admirers of the 21-year-old, who spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Frosinone.

Liverpool are also thrown into the mix due to Arne Slot’s alleged admiration for the versatile attacker, with a CalcioMercato adding that clubs should ‘beware of Aston Villa’, who are also interested in Soule.

A separate report from TuttoJuve explained that the player’s parent club could push their luck by asking for €35m (£30m) for the Argentine, a fee that Juventus believe Premier League clubs would pay.

Matias Soule could improve Unai Emery’s squad at Aston Villa

Once lauded as ‘supreme’ by U23 scout Antonio Mango, Soule has certainly impressed this season for his work on loan with Frosinone, standing out despite the club being relegated from Serie A.

The 21-year-old’s versatility in attack could be an element that particularly attracts Emery to his services, with the Spaniard showing how much he values a player capable of playing several positions at Villa.

Scouting site Breaking The Lines formed a comparison between Soule and six-time Premier League winner Bernardo Silva, describing the Argentine as a ‘multifaceted playmaker’, similar to the Manchester City star.

Having racked up 14 goal contributions in Serie A this term with Frosinone, the youngster has shown his worth when given the chance to shine, making for an interesting prospect for Emery to target to bolster Villa’s depth in attack.

As detailed above, Soule’s energy in possession ranks him above Villa’s other wide players when it comes to his rate of take-ons per game, suggesting just how much of a success he could be in Emery’s system.

The Villa boss places a lot of focus on how his squad presents opportunities for their wide players to isolate the opponent, a tactical approach that has seen the likes of Leon Bailey shine this term.

Soule would be a strong signing for Villa for just £30m, having the ability to play in a variety of positions and room to grow and develop as a young player under Emery.
