In the race for Virginia's 5th Congressional District, Trump has endorsed state senator John McGuire in his challenge to incumbent Rep. Bob Good.

The endorsement came as a significant blow to Good, who had initially backed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, drawing the ire of Trump loyalists.

In his endorsement of McGuire, Trump minced no words in his assessment of Good, calling him "BAD FOR VIRGINIA, AND BAD FOR THE USA." The former president accused Good of turning his back on the "incredible movement" and constantly attacking and fighting him until recently when Good offered a belated and insincere endorsement.

In contrast, Trump praised McGuire as a "highly respected State Legislator" and a "true American hero," citing the lawmaker's prior service in the U.S. Navy Seals. The former president touted McGuire's strong stance on crime, military and veteran support, and unwavering defense of the Second Amendment.

Trump's endorsement of McGuire has dealt a significant blow to Good's reelection bid, as the incumbent congressman was already facing an uphill battle. Internal polling data released by McGuire's campaign showed the challenger leading Good by a significant margin, with 45% of voters supporting McGuire compared to 31% for Good.

In the race for the U.S. Senate in Virginia, Trump has also thrown his weight behind Hung Cao, one of the Republican candidates vying for the chance to face Democratic incumbent Tim Kaine in the general election.

On social media, Trump expressed his "Complete and Total Endorsement" of Cao, describing him as a "tireless fighter to stop Inflation, grow our Economy, secure our Border, strongly support our Incredible Military/Vets and defend out always under siege Second Amendment."

Cao responded enthusiastically to Trump's endorsement, stating that he was "honored to receive an endorsement from the 45th and 47th President of the United States Donald Trump!" The Vietnamese immigrant and former Navy officer had previously run unsuccessfully for the U.S. House in 2022.

Cao is one of five Republicans running in the primary, facing competition from business owner and Army veteran Eddie Garcia, attorney Jonathan Emord, attorney Chuck Smith, and Scott Parkinson, who is a vice president of the conservative advocacy group "Club for Growth."
