Report suggests why Manchester City transfer might not appeal to Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United fans face a nervous wait to see if Bruno Guimaraes is going to remain at the club.

That is what everyone associated with Newcastle United wants, although the 26-year-old’s release clause does leave the Magpies vulnerable.

If a club wants to sign Bruno Guimaraes over the next few weeks then they can – but only if they offer £100million. That is how much Bruno’s release clause is worth, and it can only be activated for a short period of time.

That plays into Newcastle’s hands, with both Arsenal and Manchester City interested in signing the Brazil international.

How Manchester City feel about Bruno Guimaraes’ release clause

But Arsenal are hoping that they can get Bruno for less than £100million, and that is reportedly the belief of Man City too.

That is according to Football Transfers, who report that Bruno will need to be available for much less than that for him to arrive at the Etihad Stadium.

There have been fears that Pep Guardiola could make a move for Bruno now that the Lucas Paqueta deal is on hold, but it appears that the price tag is going to be an issue.

That is good news for Toon fans, as is Man City’s potential plan for the Brazilian superstar.

Another potential problem for Bruno Guimaraes and Man City

Football Transfers add that if Man City were to sign Bruno, he would act as Rodri’s deputy. They would bring him in as a backup, which would explain why they are not too keen to spend £100million.

But that could also play into Newcastle’s hands, as Bruno surely will not be enthused about the prospect of just being a squad player. Hopefully that puts him off a move to Man City, if that possibility does become a reality.

Another potential bonus for Newcastle surrounds the future of Pep Guardiola. He is the best manager in the world – someone who any player would want to play for. But he might not be at Man City for much longer, with reports suggesting he is going to leave at the end of next season.

That could also make a move to Man City less appealing for Bruno, who is going to miss out on European football during the 2024/25 campaign – unless he changes clubs.

But hopefully he remains where he is and gives Newcastle United at least one more year. He is Eddie Howe’s talisman, and has the talent to drag the Magpies back into Europe. Fingers crossed he stays around to do exactly that, as his £100million release clause continues to put potential suitors off.
