Unai Emery can finally sign ‘clinical’ target in free Aston Villa transfer as exit confirmed

Unai Emery could be tempted to revisit one of his former transfer targets at Aston Villa, with the player’s future now confirmed ahead of the summer.

Monchi and Unai Emery will join forces again this summer in a bid to orchestrate a transfer window as successful as 2023.

After securing Champions League football, it will be hoped that fresh faces and players of a higher calibre will be attracted to the project at Villa Park, as the squad prepares to challenge Europe’s elite next term.

While high-profile players will be desired, the manager will be handed the task of ensuring financial regulations are met, with The Athletic recently detailing that Aston Villa could find themselves in a ‘sell to buy’ situation in the transfer window.

Fortunately, there are some cost-effective options available, with Ross Barkley being a free agent that Villa are ‘pushing’ to sign.

As well as the Luton Town star, Emery could be tempted to revisit a player he was said to be interested in last summer, as Anthony Martial confirmed his exit from Manchester United.

Aston Villa could revisit Anthony Martial after Manchester United departure

In 2023, it was reported by Football Transfers that Villa were ‘weighing up’ whether to attempt to sign Martial on loan for the season.

The Frenchman remained at United as nothing surfaced from the speculation however, given the 28-year-old’s stance this summer, Emery could consider making a swoop for the forward.

Signed by the Red Devils for £36m back in 2015, the France international will soon be available for free, with his wage demands the only stumbling block that could hinder Villa’s interest being recharged.

Earning a reported £250k-a-week at Old Trafford, a similar wage would see the forward become Villa’s highest earner by £100k-a-week, via Capology.

Anthony Martial could be the perfect signing for Unai Emery

Signing a versatile 28-year-old with 63 Premier League goals to his name for free would be a strong move for Villa if wage demands were able to be lowered.

In Martial, Emery could add to his list of forwards, a position that needs strengthening with Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran standing alone as those capable of playing the number nine role.

The United outsider has featured on the left flank during his time in the Premier League also, suggesting that he could be the ideal player for the manager to add to his squad at Villa, with depth needed this summer.

Lauded as ‘clinical’ by Manchester United legend Paul Scholes, the former Monaco starlet still has plenty to play for in his career, with redemption surely on his mind after securing just five league starts in 2023/24.

It would be interesting to see the seasoned goal scorer arrive at Villa Park, particularly with Duran’s future far from certain, as the Colombian’s agent confirmed interest from Chelsea.

Only time will tell if Emery could go back in for Martial, who with over 200 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League experience to his name, could be the ideal transfer target ahead of 2024/25.
