Report: Club could now sell £26m Eddie Howe target to Newcastle to fund another deal

Juventus are now thinking about selling an Eddie Howe target to Newcastle – in order to fund another signing.

The Magpies are looking to bounce back from a challenging 2023/24 campaign with some wise recruitment this summer, although European football can no longer be offered to targets after Manchester United’s FA Cup win.

Nevertheless – despite losing the UEFA Conference League spot – Newcastle have now received some encouragement regarding one transfer target…

Dean Huijsen could be sold to Newcastle

A story by Gazzetta dello Sport now claims that Juventus could sell Dean Huijsen to Newcastle – in order to fund a €60m (£51m) move to sign Atalanta No.7 Teun Koopmeiners.

The Italian news outlet believe Juventus cannot afford to pay £51m for the Netherlands international, so those in Turin are planning some sales to free up funds.

That has led to discussions about Huijsen’s future.

Gazzetta dello Sport directly mention that Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund are keen to sign the man from Amsterdam, and Juventus value the defender at €30m (£26m).

Interestingly, it is suggested that finances are tight at Borussia Dortmund, which means Newcastle appear best placed to sign Huijsen.

The 19-year-old spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Roma, scoring two goals while also providing one assist in 14 Serie A appearances.

Eddie Howe could sign Virgil van Dijk 2.0

Some Newcastle fans might not have heard much about Huijsen, given the fact he is far from a household name across Europe.

Therefore, supporters may appreciate a comparison to a better known footballer.

Interestingly, Huijsen has been compared to Liverpool No.4 and Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk by Alex Santisteban – the teenager’s agent.

In fact, the Spain U21 international was even likened to Giorgio Chiellini, Sergio Ramos and Matthijs de Ligt as well.

Huijsen primarily operated as a central defender in the 2023/24 campaign, although he did also appear in central midfield, and also on the right of midfield at times, as seen on his Transfermarkt page.

Therefore, Howe could get his hands on a versatile talent this summer – if Juventus do decide to prioritise their pursuit of Koopmeiners.
