'It's a done deal': Sky Sports journalist has just shared an exciting transfer update for Tottenham fans

Tottenham Hotspur have just agreed a deal to complete their first signing of the summer.

Spurs were expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window, and they’re showing now that they mean serious business. The window doesn’t open till the middle of June, but Ange Postecoglou’s side have already made their first move.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has shared just shared some exciting news for Tottenham fans.

Timo Werner to Tottenham is a ‘done deal’

Timo Werner spent the second half of the 2023/24 season at Tottenham, on loan from RB Leipzig.

The Germany international’s previous spell in the Premier League was at Chelsea, and he failed to impress there – even though he won the Champions League.

That made a few people question whether he would be a good signing for Spurs, but the ‘outstanding‘ attacker did a decent job under Postecoglou.

Tottenham had an option to sign Werner on a permanent deal for £15 million, and fans were wondering whether Spurs would trigger that clause.

Now, Sky Germany journalist Plettenberg has revealed the latest on the situation.

Tottenham are all set to re-sign Werner, but not on a permanent deal. He will put pen to paper on another loan deal – this time for the whole campaign.

Spurs have agreed to cover his entire salary, and they even have the option to sign him on a permanent deal at the end of his loan spell – for a fee of around €15 million (£12.75m).

Plettenberg tweeted: “News Timo Werner: It’s a DONE DEAL now! Total agreement between Leipzig and Tottenham. Loan extension for one more season with a new option to buy in summer 2025!

“Total package of loan fee and option to buy of around €15m. Tottenham will cover his entire salary. Werner will stay at @SpursOfficial. All done.”

What Ange Postecoglou thinks of Werner

Timo Werner surprised a few people during his loan spell at Tottenham.

The German still struggled in front of goal, just like he did at Chelsea, but he just seemed a much better fit in Ange Postecoglou’s system.

Werner got in some good positions, made a number of really clever runs and caused opposition defenders quite a few problems. He was a real nuisance at times.

That was enough to suggest that Spurs should get him back for the 2024/25 season, and they reportedly have done just that now.

Speaking about why Postecoglou wants him, Alasdair Gold tweeted: “Postecoglou likes the German attacker and as part of a bigger squad needed for next season with Europa League football, he’s experienced and can cover a few positions.”
