'My understanding is': Fabrizio Romano shares early morning update on Ruben Amorim to Chelsea links

Ruben Amorim has been heavily linked with the Chelsea job, and Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest on the situation.

It has been almost a week since Mauricio Pochettino and the Blues parted ways. The Argentine only spent a season at the helm at Stamford Bridge, and despite a strong end to the season, it was decided that he had to leave.

Chelsea have been on the lookout for a new manager since, and Amorim’s name has been making some noise recently.

Fabrizio Romano shares the latest on Ruben Amorim to Chelsea rumours

Chelsea, like every other club looking for a new manager, will have a list of targets.

The Blues have been linked with plenty of names, but rumours claiming Ruben Amorim is a contender for the job have emerged in recent days.

Football London even suggested that the ‘mystery’ name on Chelsea’s list is more likely to be Amorim than managers like Jose Mourinho and Thomas Tuchel.

The 39-year-old just won the Portuguese league title with Sporting Lisbon, and he has widely been regarded as one of the most exciting young managers in the world.

Liverpool fans were really excited when it seemed like Amorim was on his way to Anfield, and we’re sure some Chelsea supporters would share a similar feeling about the Sporting boss now.

However, Romano has shared an update this morning about Amorim that could disappoint a few Chelsea fans.

The journalist has revealed that Amorim is not a contender for the Chelsea job and no talks have taken place between the two parties.

Romano said in his Daily Briefing: “We keep hearing so many stories about the Chelsea manager situation, which is normal of course after the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, and with so many other clubs also changing managers this summer, but I wanted to clarify some things here.

“As things stand, Ruben Amorim is not in talks with Chelsea – my understanding is that he is not a candidate as Chelsea would prefer someone with experience of working in English football.

“So, despite rumours, Amorim is not holding talks over the Chelsea job.”

Chelsea held talks with one manager over the weekend

It’s a shame Ruben Amorim is not being considered for the Chelsea job – his work at Sporting Lisbon has been really impressive and he deserves a chance at a bigger club.

The Blues, however, are going in a different direction.

Todd Boehly’s side have been heavily linked with Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca, and it has been claimed that he is ‘super keen’ on the Chelsea job.

Now, Romano, in his early morning update, has revealed that talks actually took place between the Blues and Maresca over the weekend about a move to Stamford Bridge.

“It’s now up to Chelsea,” said Romano, who also claimed that “decision time is coming soon”.
