Report: Chelsea have now made an offer to sign a defender who's even faster than Virgil van Dijk

Chelsea have another busy summer ahead of them.

Not only do they need to get a new manager in place, this squad, once again, needs surgery as a fifth-placed finish wasn’t good enough and many of their players continued to underperform.

One thing Chelsea do need this summer is a new centre-back. Thiago Silva has left the club, while Wesley Fofana remains perennially injured and there are question marks over the ability of Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile.

Luckily, help could be on the way as according to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, Chelsea have now offered a contract to Tosin Adarabioyo.

Chelsea offer Tosin a contract

According to Thomas, Chelsea have offered Tosin Adarabioyo a contract.

The Fulham defender was thought to be close to joining Newcastle United, but this has thrown a spanner in the works.

Tosin may well be tempted by a move to Chelsea.

A move across west London would mean that the player doesn’t have to relocate, and Chelsea are, historically, a much more successful club than Newcastle.

Tosin could be perfect for Enzo Maresca

This could be the ideal first signing for the potential new Chelsea manager – Enzo Maresca.

Tosin is a proven Premier League defender with a lot of solid physical attributes – at one point he was clocked as the fastest defender in the Premier League, even quicker than Virgil van Dijk.

However, it’s his technical ability that will really catch the eye for Maresca.

Tosin knows how to pick a pass and he’s very confident on the ball, and, as many will know, that’s something Maresca values.

The Italian, of course, learnt his trade under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and that’s precisely how Tosin was schooled as well.

Indeed, Tosin made his professional debut under Guardiola at City, and while he didn’t quite make it at the Etihad, the remnants of that education are still there to be seen to this day.

This could be the ideal signing for Chelsea, and, on a free transfer, it would be an absolute bargain as well.
