‘I was told’: BBC pundit shares what Chris Sutton plans to tell Celtic hero Joe Hart at the Euros

As the Scottish season ends, Celtic fans can now look forward to a summer of international football as Euro 2024 kicks off in Germany next month.

Scotland will be there and kicking off the big football extravaganza with Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Anthony Ralston and Greg Taylor all in the reckoning to be taking part.

I think it’s fair to say that McGregor is definitely going but we can all sit and hope that Steve Clarke will take the other three Celtic heroes with him as well.

However, that is not where interest for the Celtic fans ends. There will be a host of Parkhead-connected pundits heading to Germany with Chris Sutton, Joe Hart and even Ange Postecoglou all heading to the tournament to offer their thoughts on the games.

And it is what Chris Sutton plans to say to the now former Celtic hero, Joe Hart, that particularly caught my attention today.

Why Sutton thinks Joe Hart is an ‘idiot’

Hart has now retired from football and after winning the Scottish Cup on Saturday, he does so on a high.

But according to BBC man Mark Chapman, former Celtic hero, Sutton, plans to pull up his fellow countryman and tell him exactly why he’s not happy that Hart hung up his Parkhead gloves this season.

Speaking on the Monday Night Club, Chapman said, “You’ve mentioned that Joe Hart is part of our team in Germany which is great and you would like to see him for a chat.

“I was told earlier today that you were talking to our producer and you said, “When I see Joe Hart, I’m going to tell him he’s an idiot.”

Sutton: “Well I’ll say hello first.”

Chapman: “So why is he an idiot?”

Sutton:Because he’s retired on a high. I get all that but when I spoke to him after the St Mirren game when they had the celebrations, he said physically he could carry on. And that’s that’s the frustration on my part.

“I think he is big gloves, massive gloves to fill. He’s been an outstanding goalkeeper for Celtic, a real leader. So I just think you play for as long as you can.

“And I understand his reasons. He wants to go out on a high, I get all that. But from a selfish perspective, I didn’t want him to leave Celtic.”

“I still think he’s got so much more to give and I think he will regret it, especially after spending Germany with you.”

Hart retires as a legend of Celtic and whilst the decision to leave is gutting, every Celtic fan wishes him the best.

The fact he waited till the end of the season to bow out whilst delivering more trophies will ensure that Hart will always be held in high regard by the Celtic supporters.

At least if we can’t see him in a Celtic jersey again it will be interesting to hear his thoughts and how he thinks about the game as a pundit on the BBC this summer.
