'I think': Pundit shares why he thinks Pep Guardiola could leave Manchester City in 2025

Jason Cundy has revealed why he thinks Pep Guardiola could leave Manchester City in 2025.

It was claimed by the Daily Mail journalist Jack Gaughan on the weekend that Pep Guardiola is yet to formally communicate his decision to leave Manchester City but he is expected to at the end of his contract next year.

It was also reported on Monday that the Catalan will spend the next couple of months to decide his future at City.

Jason Cundy reveals why Pep Guardiola could leave Man City next year

As the £378,846-a-week man’s future remains up in the air, the world is speculating why he may have decided to leave next year.

Jason Cundy claimed that Pep Guardiola simply might not have anything else to achieve at Manchester City, especially after winning the treble in 2023 — prompting him to potentially bid farewell to the club.

When asked if Guardiola may be leaving City due to the competition getting tougher season after season on talkSPORT, Cundy replied: “No, I’m not sure Pep [Guardiola] thinks like that. He’s achieved the ultimate, hasn’t he, really with the treble and then he nearly done the double-double. That’s only a thing in Scotland isn’t it, double-treble, treble-double, double-treble, whatever it is.”

“I think there does come a time where you exhaust what you’re doing at a club. You’ve got to keep refreshing the squad, the same voice, keep saying the same things, trying to demand the same of each player every time.”

Jason Cundy also pinpointed how intense life is for managers like Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

“Especially at the intensity these guys have to work at now, I know it’s always been this way but now, it’s driven by other things such as data and stats and there’s so much more to the game, it feels now than it ever was.”

“30, 40 years ago, it felt a more simpler game, now I think the demands on these managers, it’s so intense.”

Pep Guardiola might be aiming to focus on life outside football

In our view, Jason Cundy raises a valid point in questioning whether Pep Guardiola has anything else to prove at Manchester City.

Furthermore, it would be understandable if Guardiola was keen on spending more time with his family and focusing on life outside football.

Having managed at the highest level for 11 years in a row at Bayern and City, perhaps the Spaniard would be looking forward to a break.

Spending that time off with his loved ones would be a fair reason for Pep Guardiola to depart Manchester City if he is prioritising this aspect of his life whenever he decides to leave the club.
