Dana Altman has been very active in the offseason. Both in the transfer portal and in recruiting.

Oregon has found themselves on the short list for one of the top 2025 shooting guards in the country. Long Beach Poly (Calif.) star Jovani Ruff has put Oregon among his top four with California, Kansas and USC.

The 6-foot-4, 175-pounder has alsotold On3’s Joe Tipton he will make his college choice on June 5. The four-star is the No. 41 ranked player in the On3 Industry Rankings in 2025. He is the No. 9 ranked shooting guard and No. 4 ranked player in California.

Here is what Ruff told On3’s Joe Tipton about Oregon and why the Ducks made the cut.

“Dana Altman is a great coach. Nobody expected them to make a deep run in the tournament, but they shocked a lot of people and made a deep run, and it’s attractive how they use their freshmen.”

Ruff Scouting Report

“Jovani Ruff has good positional size with a projectable frame and nice length. He has fluid mobility and an innate sense of where to be off ball. He is a solid cutter and a good off ball defender. The jump shot is a question-mark. He is not a catch and shoot threat and the excess movement in his release elongate his shooting stroke off the bounce. Can struggle to get clean looks with solid athletes guarding him. I like his defensive instincts. Has quick hands and can move his feet. He is comfortable on the ball, can push the break and get to spots on the half court. A solid athlete. The jump shot and overall shooting is the swing skill. Needs to clean up the load and release.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
