'Under the spotlight': How Raheem Sterling feels about Chelsea appointing Enzo Maresca as manager - journalist

Enzo Maresca is set to take over at Chelsea, where he will get to work with many talented players.

That includes Raheem Sterling, if the winger ends up staying at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Sterling lost his starting spot under Mauricio Pochettino towards the end of the season and there is now talk about him potentially being sacrificed to facilitate the arrival of others.

His situation is one that Maresca and the club’s sporting directors will have to address soon.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Maresca has now agreed an initial five-year deal with Chelsea.

What Raheem Sterling wants from Enzo Maresca

Journalist Dean Jones recently claimed that Chelsea are looking at Crystal Palace duo Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze and will have to offload one of their current attackers if they want to bring one of them in.

Sterling could be a candidate to go, but Jones says the 29-year-old feels that the imminent arrival of Maresca could see him get given a chance, or is at least hopeful of that happening.

On X, he wrote: “Raheem Sterling situation at Chelsea to come under the spotlight again.

“Still wants to stay at Chelsea and hopeful a(nother) new manager gives him that chance.

“But Chelsea are looking at options like Olise/Eze and if another attacker is to arrive, someone has to go.”

What should Enzo Maresca do with Raheem Sterling?

Maresca’s appointment could represent a fresh start for Sterling.

Again, he fell out of favour towards the end of Pochettino’s tenure. The England international started just one of Chelsea’s final five fixtures, though he was unavailable for one of them.

If it takes sacrificing him for someone like Olise, though, then it is something that Maresca obviously has to consider.

Olise is one of the most dangerous wingers in the Premier League and is seven years Sterling’s junior.

This season, the 22-year-old scored 10 goals and provided six assists in just 19 top-flight outings, showing just how devastating he can be.
