German reporter shares the details of Tottenham Hotspur’s new Timo Werner deal

Tottenham Hotspur are approaching an important transfer window and it looks like another deal is on the verge of being done and dusted.

Ange Postecoglou is heading into his third transfer window as Tottenham boss and this one should be a big one.

Tottenham will be in the Europa League next season and Postecoglou will want to add both quality and quantity to prepare for that added workload.

One deal was completed just days after the January transfer window closed as Lucas Bergvall agreed to sign from Djurgarden.

The Swede will arrive this summer and there is considerable excitement around him having emerged as something of a wonderkid.

Tottenham will look for some more proven signings too and another deal is on the verge of completion just over a week since the Premier League season ended.

Tottenham Hotspur set to sign Timo Werner again

Spurs have been facing a decision over the future of loanee Timo Werner.

Signed on loan from RB Leipzig in January, Werner bagged two goals and three assists in 13 Premier League games.

A clause in the deal allowed Tottenham to sign Werner permanently for around €18million (£15.5million).

Instead, Tottenham are now set to sign Werner on loan again, as noted by Fabrizio Romano earlier on Tuesday.

The terms of the deal are now emerging with Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claiming that the agreement is now in place.

Plettenberg claims that it is now a ‘done deal’ for Werner to return to Tottenham for another year – and there will be a permanent option included again.

Plettenberg adds that the total deal – combining the loan fee and the potential permanent move – comes to €15million (£12.75million).

That means Tottenham have negotiated a cheaper move in total but will be paying Werner’s wages in full over the next year.

Werner’s attempts to earn a permanent move were cut down by injury but he will now have a full season to try and tempt Tottenham into a deal.

Why have Tottenham signed Werner again?

Some Tottenham fans may not be too excited by the prospect of Werner coming back.

The German wasn’t terrible in his loan spell and actually showed the ability to be a threat with his runs to the byline.

Tottenham needed attacking additions this summer and some may have wanted more ‘exciting’ players to come in.

Spurs liked Werner’s pace though and with European football on the horizon, players who can play in multiple positions will be very valuable.

Werner can do that, presenting an option to play on the left flank or up front.

Another loan deal means Tottenham don’t have to commit to Werner in the long-term but can keep an experienced forward around a fairly young squad.

This seems pretty low-risk for Tottenham and negotiating a cheaper deal certainly makes this move look even more appealing.
