Firefighters remain at the scene of a large blaze at a derelict factory in Sudbury.

Crews have spent the evening tackling the fire at the disused Delphi engineering site, in Newton Road.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said at its height crews from Sudbury, Long Melford, Bury St Edmunds, Clare, Haverhill, and Hadleigh were at the scene with additional support from Essex Fire & Rescue Service, which attended with crews from Halstead and Colchester.

They said: “Two aerial appliances were also used at the scene to tackle a well developed fire in the roof and first floor of the building.

“Our new 32 metre turntable ladder proved invaluable at this incident as its rapid deployment and easily manoeuvrable cage monitor helped prevent the fire from spreading and the incident escalating further.”

Crews remain at the same damping down.

Delphi Diesel Systems closed the site in 2020 with hundreds of job losses.
