Villa Park redevelopment plans: Aston Villa begin major changes to their home stadium

Villa Park is set to undergo major renovations during the summer which could affect many of fans.

The early signs of a new era at Villa Park are set to get underway. After Unai Emery guided the side to the Champions League, plans are now underway to change their home stadium ready for the new season.

Redevelop plans for Villa Park have been in the brewing for a while. However, a setback earlier this year prevented the planned capacity expansion this summer.

Instead, the club has now focused on improving the current facilities at the club with the North Stand clearly have plenty of work done.

Villa Park’s North Stand undergoes major changes

In early May, it was revealed that Villa Park were set to offer more premium seating ahead of the new season.

However, this will come at a cost for many of the season ticket holders at the club with 900 seats set to no longer be available.

Work has begun on the North Stand to remove multiple seats with the Holte End having just as many taken away.

According to the president of business operations, Chris Heck, this extra income could help to bridge the gap between the top six and Villa in incoming seasons.

“It’ll take a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of changes as we grow our business,” he told Villa TV. “We use the analogy with FFP that we have a train which is the football side, and a train on the business side. The train on the football side is going lightning fast and that’s a good thing.

“The business side has to catch that train. We’re working around the clock trying to do sponsorship deals, changing the stadium to be beneficial to Financial Fair Play, find new revenue streams, take in our merchandise in-house and things of that nature.”

Last summer, Villa released their expansions plans for Villa Park. This saw the stadium eventually expand to 60,000 with the initial expansion set to start this summer.

The North Stand was due to be demolished with a brand new stand set to be erected by May 2026.

Following this, enhancements would have to be made to the Trinity Stand, with redevelopments for the transportation around the stadium being seen at the ‘master plan’.

However, according to the Birmingham Mail, these plans were put on hold in January, with the prospect of a reduced capacity for Champions League football looking unfavourable.

It is not yet known when these plans will once again get underway with no new announcements about the expansion.

This has resulted in calls for the club to potentially move into a new ground led by former Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor.

In the meantime, Villa will continue to improve the matchday experience with the club shop opposite the North Stand set to be double in size.
