Tennis: Japan's Uchijima cruises to 1st-round win at French Open

Moyuka Uchijima, currently the highest-ranked Japanese player in women's tennis at 83rd, advanced to the second round of the French Open with a 6-1, 6-1 victory Tuesday over Spain's Irene Burillo Escorihuela.

The 22-year-old Uchijima defeated the fellow qualifier in an hour for her first career win at a Grand Slam. She will next play two-time Australian Open champion and second-seeded Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.

Uchijima arrived at Roland Garros having won three straight tournaments on the second-tier ITF Tour.

Former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka, ranked 134th, is scheduled to face two-time defending champion Iga Swiatek of Poland in the second round on Wednesday.
