Report: Tottenham now monitoring £15m defender who nearly scored against Guglielmo Vicario from inside own half

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been monitoring a defender who nearly scored against Guglielmo Vicario from inside his own half last season.

Spurs are expected to be busy this summer and have already tied up one deal after confirming that Timo Werner will stay at the club for another season.

Tottenham are expected to target three key areas of Ange Postecoglou’s squad this summer, with the Aussie keen to bring in a new centre-back, midfielder and striker.

The north Londoners have already moved to bolster their backline with the addition of Radu Dragusin in January.

Dragusin enjoyed a run in the side towards the end of the season under Postecoglou but according to The Athletic, Spurs have been tracking the progress of another centre-back ahead of the summer.

Tottenham monitoring Murillo

According to a report from The Athletic, Tottenham are among a host of sides who monitored Nottingham Forest’s Murillo last season.

The likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Real Madrid are also tracking the 21-year-old after an impressive campaign at the City Ground.

Murillo arrived at Forest for a £15 million fee last summer and has really caught the eye in his debut season.

The centre-back racked up 36 appearances in all competitions and was key to Forest extending their stay in the Premier League.

Despite not getting on the scoresheet, Murillo was unfortunate to not have at least one goal of the season contender.

Murillo almost beat Vicario from inside his own half

Some Spurs supporters may remember Murillo’s audacious effort against their side back in April.

Postecoglou’s side ran out 3-1 winners on the day but Guglielmo Vicario nearly suffered a moment to forget thanks to Murillo.

The defender spotted Vicario off his line from midway inside his own half and unleashed an ambitious effort.

It had Vicario scrambling back towards his goal but fortunately for Spurs, Murillo’s effort went narrowly wide.

The Brazilian almost had three exceptional goals to his name last season as he came close to scoring a similar effort against Luton Town. Murillo also beat a host of Crystal Palace players before seeing his effort from close range saved.

He’s certainly a defender with plenty of flair and would have the required quality on the ball to thrive under Postecoglou.
