‘Sources believe’: Antonio Conte wants ‘powerful’ Chelsea player as his first signing at Napoli - journalist

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that a former Chelsea manager could be about to raid his old club this summer.

While not yet officially announced, it is expected that Antonio Conte is going to be named the next Napoli manager following their underwhelming title defence in Italy.

The playing squad there could be about to undergo some big changes, most notably in the striker position.

It has been expected for months now that Victor Osimhen would be on the move when last season came to an end, despite the fact he struggled to hit the same heights in terms of numbers.

One of the clubs who have been strongly linked with him is Chelsea, with it still unknown if they are prepared to spend big money on a new striker for incoming boss Enzo Maresca.

This would likely mean having to get rid of one of the players currently in the role at Stamford Bridge, and Napoli themselves could help this if they decide to sign Romelu Lukaku.

Conte wants Romelu Lukaku at Napoli

Phillips said on his Substack that he has been told Conte would like to add the Belgian to his ranks at his new club.

He said: “Antonio Conte is set to take the Napoli manager job and sources believe he will come again for Lukaku. There’s maybe something to keep an eye on there with Osimhen too, perhaps a sweetener for any deal to sign him.”

Mauricio Pochettino hinted at Lukaku Chelsea return

Despite clearly being an unpopular figure with the Chelsea supporters at this stage, former manager Mauricio Pochettino refused to rule out the prospect of him featuring in some capacity in the future for his side.

However, Nicolas Jackson’s purple patch at the end of the season did a lot to convince some that he has more than enough to be the man for the job, and also threw the need for a huge-money signing into doubt.
