Report: The latest update on Matt O’Riley as Celtic set to ‘demand’ record summer transfer fee

The future of Celtic midfielder, Matt O’Riley, was secured by the club when Brendan Rodgers persuaded the Danish international to sign a new deal last summer.

Since then, O’Riley has had an outstanding season in the green and white hoops as he finished the season as the club’s top goalscorer, Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year at the end of season awards earlier this month.

O’Riley has also shown that he can mix it with the big boys in Europe after a man-of-the-match performance against Atletico Madrid in the 2-2 draw at Celtic Park back in September.

And it was that performance, amongst others, that piqued the Spanish giants’ interest when they decided to test Celtic’s resolve in January with a bid that was very quickly knocked back.

However, it seems that there is a ‘plethora’ of teams looking at O’Riley as a report from HITC gives an update on the current state of play in the number of teams interested in the Celtic star.

Celtic to demand more than Jota for Matt O’Riley

We discussed yesterday how Atletico Madrid have made O’Riley one of their transfer priorities this summer.

Well, it seems that they are not the only club. According to the report from Graeme Bailey, Vfb Stuttgart and Monaco have ‘declared their interest’ in the Celtic hero.

Bailey also says that Brighton, West Ham and Brentford are ‘showing the most interest’ in O’Riley. However, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle and Aston Villa are said to have ‘different priorities’ this summer.

Celtic certainly face a tough summer ahead to fend off potential suitors for their star player but if teams are seriously looking to tempt the club with a bid, anything less than an offer of £25m will not be entertained.

With Celtic in the group stages of the Champions League next season, the supporters will be hoping that O’Riley will stick around for one last crack at Europe’s elite in the green and white Hoops.
