Report: 'Amazing' £50m player Wolves tried to sign in January now sees asking price slashed in almost half

Chelsea have reportedly now slashed their asking price of a player Wolves were strongly linked with earlier this year.

Wanderers fans are hoping to see the club have a really productive summer this time around, with Gary O’Neil having shown brilliant potential as manager so far.

He guided Wolves to a 14th-placed finish in the Premier League, and took the club to an FA Cup quarter-final.

Wolves could really kick on next term. But officials need to get it right in the transfer window. Failure to do so could actually result in the relegation battle many thought Wolves would be in in 2023/24.

One player Wolves could potentially move for this summer is Armando Broja, who the club failed to bring in in January.

And an encouraging report has dropped about the Albanian striker…

Chelsea to now demand under £30m for Armando Broja, after Wolves January links

Broja was a player Wolves really wanted to bring to the club in January, but ultimately Chelsea’s demands were too high.

The Blues were seeking around £5 million initially to send him out on loan for the second half of the season.

Wolves had a precarious financial position, and simply couldn’t pay that much. In the end, Fulham paid £4 million to take Broja for the remainder of the campaign.

It was not a successful spell for the 22-year-old, who did not score a goal in the eight appearances he made.

Fulham won’t be signing him permanently. So perhaps Wolves could come calling again this summer, with Chelsea’s asking price now revealed.

Apparently, the Blues would be looking for just under £30 million to sell, according to the Express. This is down from the £50 million this apparently wanted for a permanent sale in January.

It is also stated that there is a ‘general feeling’ that this new asking price could even be slashed further.

Ipswich Town, AS Monaco and Borussia Dortmund have also been linked. It’s said that Broja would be open to staying in the Premier League.

Earlier this month, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that it was ‘expected’ Broja would leave Chelsea permanently this summer.

Broja at £30m is too expensive

Chelsea may have slashed the asking price on Broja from £50 million down to less than £30 million, but the player is still too expensive at this new valuation.

Ultimately, Broja just hasn’t done well enough in the Premier League to warrant that kind of valuation. Sure, he has potential. But a goalscoring record of eight goals in 66 top-flight appearances isn’t very impressive.

It remains to be seen if Wolves try and make another move for him this summer.

But the club should not be going near him unless the price drops again, even if former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino does believe he has ‘amazing potential’.
