Newark-based charities Newark Emmaus Trust and Children’s Bereavement Centre raise over £15,000 at annual fundraiser, with Masquerade Ball at Newark Showground

An evening of glitz and glamour has helped raise thousands of pounds for two Newark-based charities.

The Newark Emmaus Trust and the Children’s Bereavement Centre teamed up to host their third annual, joint fundraising event, which was ‘Masquerade Ball’ held at Newark Showground.

The event was attended by 200 guests donning creative and colourful masks, who danced the night away and helped to raise £15,045, which will be shared equally between the two charities.

Newark Emmaus Trust and the Children’s Bereavement Centre teamed up for their third annual, joint fundraising event, held at Newark Showground and raised over £15,000 for the two charities.

The money raised will directly make a difference in the lives of young people and children in the area.

Newark Emmaus Trust provides accommodation, support and training for homeless young people aged 16 and 25, including pregnant teenagers, young parents and their babies.

The Children’s Bereavement Centre helps children and young people to cope with the grief of losing a loved one or someone close to them being diagnosed with terminal illness.

Dozens of businesses, organisations and individuals from across the area made the night possible through sponsorships and donations to the raffle and auction.

Fundraising manager at the Children’s Bereavement Centre, Rachel Wilson, said: “We are always overwhelmed with the support we receive from the local community but this year’s Masquerade Ball surpassed all our expectations.

“It’s such an important fundraiser for us and we feel incredibly privileged to have received so much support.

“From the companies that sponsored the event and donated prizes, the volunteers that helped on the night to the guests that purchased tickets and fully embraced the theme.

“Both charities support young people albeit in very different ways and it was a pleasure as always to work in partnership with them on this event.

“To everyone involved, thank you for helping us change the lives for so many. We are already looking forward to next year.”

Nikki Burley, chief executive of the Newark Emmaus Trust, said: “What an amazing night.

“We are grateful to so many people for helping us to raise such an incredible amount of money which will fund activities for our residents at the Trust and most importantly make a difference in their young lives.

“A fantastic night of fundraising and fun. A huge thank you to everyone involved.”
