'Showed an interest': Man City are now keen to sign £63m player this summer - journalist

It has been reported that Manchester City are interested in signing one player in the summer transfer window.

For Manchester City to maintain their dominance at the top, they will have to make sure their summer business is also a level above the rest.

After winning the Premier League title, Kyle Walker recently admitted that the gap between City and Arsenal is closing — emphasising the need to strengthen in key areas.

Man City interested in signing £63.6 million man in the summer

One of the areas of the pitch that the Sky Blues might need to address before others is in between the sticks.

It was claimed on Sunday that Pep Guardiola believes Ederson Moraes is set to play for a Saudi Pro League Club next season. However, the report stated that City were aiming to tie Stefan Ortega down to a new contract shortly — boosting his weekly wages by £20,000.

Journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed on X that Manchester City “showed an interest” in signing Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

The 24-year-old, who has a £63.6 million release clause in his contract, as per Fabrizio Romano was also approached by Chelsea.

It has also been claimed that if Porto receive an offer for their number one that they deem satisfactory, they will be open to let him go.

If Man City sign Diogo Costa, Stefan Ortega could demand exit

If Manchester City do end up signing Diogo Costa in the summer, Stefan Ortega could demand an exit, judging by the recent speculation about his future.

It was claimed last Tuesday that the German’s contract talks with City are being delayed because he will only extend his deal if given assurances that he will become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Stefan Ortega’s priority is believed to be the number one for a top club.

If that is the case, the potential acquisition of Diogo Costa at Manchester City could spell the end of the 31-year-old’s time at the club.

With Ortega being an excellent goalkeeper, City would have to be confident that Costa is superior to him in all aspects of goalkeeping in case they end up risking the former’s future at the Etihad Stadium.
