Report: £3m Nottingham Forest star now makes international U-turn after failed Hughton talks in 2022

Chris Hughton was sacked by Nottingham Forest in 2021 and now he’s convinced a current star to play for Ghana.

Forest have a number of international players within their ranks – highlighted by how many went to the African Cup of Nations in January.

Willy Boly, Ibrahim Sangare and Serge Aurier all represented the Ivory Coast at the tournament as Forest players.

Ola Aina was with the Nigeria squad, whilst Moussa Niakhate and Cheikhou Kouyate represented Senegal at the competition.

Now, another player is set to pledge his future to play for the African continent Ghana – with talks taking place with Hughton.

Chris Hughton convinces Callum Hudson-Odoi to play for Ghana

Much like his time at Forest, Hughton has fallen by the wayside with Ghana and he was sacked after a drab AFCON showing.

However, it was Hughton who convinced Hudson-Odoi to switch his allegiances after playing three times for England.

According to the Ghanaian publication My News, Hughton spoke with the parents of Hudson-Odoi before the World Cup in 2022.

At that point, he was the technical director of the Black Stars and the talks didn’t go particularly well.

He wasn’t in the Chelsea team at the time and wanted to get things sorted on that front in the first instance.

When could Hudson-Odoi make his Ghana debut?

The report claims that Hudson-Odoi is now going to be called into the squad for games against Mali and Central African Republic.

The 23-year-old only cost Forest £3 million last summer and he scored eight goals for the Reds across the campaign.

It’s a shame that Hudson-Odoi feels that his chances of getting England minutes are now impossible.

The Forest star was one of the country’s brightest young talents when he burst onto the scene but a number of players have now overtaken him in the England setup.

All of his games for England were friendlies and now he will hope to make waves with Ghana instead.

Forest fans shouldn’t be concerned regarding the African Cup of Nations.

The next event is due to take place in the summer and won’t have an impact on the Premier League campaign next time around.
