‘Very surprised’: Journalist says he’d be shocked if Man United don’t move to sign £60m winger this summer

Dean Jones has admitted he would be ‘very surprised’ if Manchester United aren’t in the conversation to sign a Premier League winger this summer.

It’s expected to be a busy transfer window ahead of Manchester United, regardless of the fate of manager Erik ten Hag.

The last season indicated the need for huge change at United after their worst-ever finish [eighth] in the Premier League.

Reinforcements are expected at centre-back after Ten Hag struggled with options in the position all season, while Raphael Varane is also set to leave on a free transfer.

But United have also had issues with options out wide, particularly on the right-hand side with the likes of Antony struggling for form.

Michael Olise has emerged as a ‘massive target’ for the Red Devils after an impressive campaign at Selhurst Park.

The Frenchman is also receiving interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United. Despite fierce competition for Olise’s signature, Dean Jones expects United to be in the mix.

Man United likely to make Michael Olise move

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that Olise is highly rated by key figures at United and would be surprised if the Premier League giants don’t throw their hat into the ring to sign him.

“Olise is a player held in extremely high regard at Old Trafford and I would be very surprised if they are not in the conversation to sign him in the summer,” the journalist said.

“A right-sided forward is not the most urgent position that needs to be sorted, but Olise is a gem and his stats back it up. You don’t really want to miss out on players like this because of the impact they can have in future years.

“United fans have come through decades where there were always players that could lift them off their seats. They need another one of those and Olise is special in that sense.”

Olise’s season compared to United’s wide options

It’s no secret that Marcus Rashford’s form dipped significantly last season as he managed just seven goals and two assists in 33 Premier League appearances.

United’s best-performing wide player was Alejandro Garnacho, who had a hand in 11 goals in 36 league games.

As for Antony, he registered just two goal involvements in 29 league games for United.

It’s fair to say that based on last season alone, Olise would dramatically improve United’s quality in the wide areas. The 22-year-old managed 10 goals and six assists in just 19 league appearances for Palace.

After missing a large chunk of the season with a hamstring injury, Olise has impressed under Oliver Glasner at Selhurst Park and could cost around the £60 million mark this summer.
