'He just wants to': Yankuba Minteh's agent has now spoke about his client's future ahead of Newcastle chance

Yankuba Minteh is braced for whatever decision Newcastle United make regarding his future this summer.

The 19-year-old winger is due to be part of Newcastle United’s pre-season preparations, as Eddie Howe gets his first proper look at a player who cost the club £6million last summer.

When Newcastle United brought in Yankuba Minteh, they immediately loaned him out to Feyenoord. He was a largely unknown talent, but the fact he got a loan move to a Champions League club was an early indication that he could be special.

And the teenager has proven to be exactly that, enjoying a really impressive year in the Eredivisie.

Minteh was so impactful in a red and white shirt, boasting 10 goals and six assists in 27 league appearances. He also helped Feyenoord win a trophy, as they lifted the KNVB Cup.

His form has led to calls for him to be involved at Newcastle next season, while Feyenoord are interested in re-signing him on loan. There has even been speculation that Everton are keen, as well as the suggestion that he could actually be sold.

Yankuba Minteh’s agent addresses his client’s Newcastle United future

But Minteh’s future is very much up in the air, and his agent has now spoke out about his client.

Bakary Bojang has spoke to the Chronicle about what is next for Minteh, and it appears that the ball is very much in Newcastle United’s court.

“Next season is next season,” he said.

“If he goes to Newcastle, he will do his best. If he goes on loan somewhere, he will do his best as well. He just wants to play football at the end of the day.

“He doesn’t think too much about it. It’s Newcastle who decide where he’s going to play, but he will definitely do his best. He will try to convince the manager he has a role there. It’s going to be an exciting summer and he’s just going to see what’s going to happen.

“I told him he did what he could with his loan deal so he could not do more and to just mentally recharge for what’s going to happen next season. No matter where you put him, he will try to perform. It’s Newcastle and the manager who will decide if it’s good enough or not good enough. He cannot do anything but play his football.”

Newcastle may suddenly have less need for Minteh next season

It appears that Minteh will go along with whatever Newcastle United and Eddie Howe suggest. If they think he is ready to play for the Magpies then he will play for the Magpies. If they think he needs another loan spell then he will have another loan spell.

But for all his ability, it is unclear if he will get the football he needs at Newcastle next season. That is largely due to a lack of potential games, with Howe’s side failing to make it into Europe.

The Conference League would have been a great opportunity for Newcastle to give Minteh the minutes he needs, but Man United’s FA Cup win ended any hope of another European adventure.

And with speculation that the club are going to sign a right winger this summer, it feels unlikely that Minteh will be afforded a chance in black and white.

Therefore, it is probably wise that he goes out on loan again. Another spell at Feyenoord certainly would not do him any harm, given how well he performed in Rotterdam.

But it will likely all depend on how Minteh performs in pre-season, with Newcastle United set to get a proper look at the youngster.
