Report: It would take life-changing money for forward Newcastle have on their shortlist to consider moving

Newcastle United’s frontline could be getting something of a face-lift this summer.

While goals were not much of a problem for Eddie Howe and his side during the season just gone, changes may well be afoot.

Only Premier League champions Manchester City and title-chasing pair Arsenal and Liverpool scored more than Newcastle’s 62.

Indeed, Howe’s side even equalled Manchester United’s record for number of different goal scorers across a League campaign, with 20.

Still, this could be something of an end to a previous era.

Callum Wilson, the club’s second-most prolific striker in the Premier League era, is reportedly likely to leave this summer.

Miguel Almiron, meanwhile, is another forward attracting interest from elsewhere.

As such, Newcastle are seemingly keen on signing a new attacker this summer and have drawn up a shortlist.

Jarrod Bowen of West Ham has frequently been linked with a move to St James’ Park over the course of his career and was even close to joining the Toon during the Steve Bruce years.

The England international once again emerged as a target last week but an update on his future has now emerged.

Jarrod Bowen would want life-changing money to leave West Ham

According to the Daily Mirror, Bowen is settled in east London.

They suggest that only either Champions League-level offers or “life-changing” money would see him want to leave the Hammers.

For their part, Newcastle are understood to recognise that signing the 27-year-old would be difficult.

Jarrod Bowen looks too expensive for Newcastle

Though player sales may create wiggle room when it comes to the FFP balancing act this summer, it feels unlikely that Newcastle would suddenly embark on a period of free-spending.

Howe, after all, warned that it would take years before the club are in a position to keep splashing huge amounts of money.

With that in mind, a deal for Bowen looks unlikely.

It’s certainly easy to see why Howe would want the player, having just bagged 16 goals at Premier League level from mostly a wide position.

However, with the club having previously strayed against breaking the wage structure, Bowen’s demands may simply be too great.

Capology suggest Bowen is paid around £120k-per-week, which would put him in Newcastle’s highest bracket.

To then make it a “life-changing” increase would surely blow Newcastle’s existing structure apart.
