'Best I've seen': Kyle Walker says Man City loanee is ridiculously talented

Kyle Walker has said that a Manchester City loanee is one of the most impressive players he’s seen.

The Manchester club have loaned out a lot of players over recent years to clubs in England and across Europe.

With another summer transfer window on the horizon, the next weeks and months will be vital for the players currently out on loan from City and other potential names that could leave the club on a temporary basis.

Now though, one current figure in Pep Guardiola’s side has shared his assessment of a player who has spent the latest season out on loan at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Speaking in the first episode of his new podcast – You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker – the Englishman had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I think Joao Cancelo, technically, is the best I’ve seen as a full-back.”

City paid £60m to sign the full-back from Juventus back in the 2019 summer transfer window.

The Portuguese international then went on to make 154 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, scoring nine goals, delivering 21 assists and winning numerous trophies along the way.

Cancelo’s unfortunate City history

Back in the 2023 January transfer window, after a reported behind-the-scenes falling out with Guardiola, the defender was loaned out to Bayern Munich and ultimately missed out on winning the Treble with City.

Last summer, Cancelo joined Barcelona on a season-long loan deal, which is set to expire at the end of June.

During his time in City’s squad, the full-back featured in 71 games with Walker, which shows how familiar the Englishman is with Cancelo and what he’s capable of producing.

Now that the 34-year-old has spoken so highly of his fellow full-back, whose contract at the Etihad Stadium isn’t set to expire until the summer of 2027, this highlights how much of an impressive player he is and how much of a shame it has been that his time at City has panned out the way it has recently.
