'Understand...': Will Still has made one major change in job hunt amid Sunderland interest - Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano has shared an intriguing update on Will Still amid heavy interest from Sunderland.

It has been over five months since Sunderland were first linked with Will Still, following Tony Mowbray’s sacking.

Fans were left frustrated when the club turned to Michael Beale instead, but it appears they have been given a second chance this time round.

It came as a shock when Reims confirmed Still’s departure at the end of the season, reigniting rumours of a potential move to Wearside.

The 31-year-old has previously admitted that he would be happy to manage in the Championship and it is believed that he has already held talks with Sunderland, however their pursuit was thrown into doubt when he went onto visit Norwich City’s training ground as they searched for their own manager.

Reports claimed it was then ‘increasingly unlikely‘ that Still would join the club, though a move seems like it could be back on.

Will Still ‘ready for new opportunity’ after Reims exit

As Sunderland eagerly await to see whether they will lure Still to the Stadium of Light, it appears that the coach is also making moves to ensure he gets a ‘new opportunity’ in management.

Fabrizio Romano wrote on X: “Former Reims manager Will Still, open to new project after leaving the club at the beginning of the month. Understand Still has signed with Unique Sports Group as new agency, ready for new opportunity.”

What does this mean for Sunderland?

It’s unclear what to make of this message, as a change of agency would suggest that Still isn’t happy with the current lack of progress he is making in finding a new job.

While many still expect him to join Sunderland, Romano’s post could also suggest that he is much further from taking the reins than first believed.

Agencies can always prove to be a pain when trying to bring managers and players to the club, but the Black Cats will hope that this is a positive move in trying to bring him to Wearside as soon as possible.

Still is clearly eager to get back into management as soon as possible though, but perhaps he is looking to force himself into the picture for other jobs such as the impending Burnley vacancy. He did begin his coaching career in Lancashire, after all.
