Rio Ferdinand suggests Arsenal have a £30m player who's even better than Tottenham's Micky Van de Ven

Rio Ferdinand has named who he believes to be the best centre-back in the Premier League right now.

Speaking to Goal on TikTok, Rio Ferdinand was taking part in a challenge where he had to stay silent until he heard the name of who he believes to be the best centre-half in England.

Ferdinand skipped the likes of Micky Van de Ven, John Stones and Ibrahima Konate, but he spoke up when he heard William Saliba’s name suggesting that the Arsenal man is the best centre-back in the league.

William Saliba the league’s best centre-back suggests Rio Ferdinand

Ferdinand stayed quiet until he heard William Saliba’s name.

Ferdinand stayed quiet while a number of top-class centre-halves were reeled off, but he made the cameraman stop listing defenders once Saliba’s name came up.

The Arsenal star has been utterly brilliant this season and there’s a real case to make that he is the best in the Premier League.

William Saliba may be Arsenal’s most important player

Saliba might just be Arsenal’s most important player right now.

The Gunners’ title challenge collapsed last year when the £27m man went down with an injury, but this term, the north London club were able to sustain their push and amass a huge total of 89 points, falling ever so short of winning the league.

Arsenal have the best defensive record in the Premier League, and Saliba has been a huge part of that.

The French defender has everything you’d want from a centre-half, he’s smart, he’s strong, he’s fast and he’s brilliant on the ball.

The scary thing is that Saliba is just 23 years old, he’s a long way off hitting his prime and if he continues to grow and improve at the same rate he has in recent years, he will go on to become one of the very best defenders, and players, on the planet.
