Rio Ferdinand has now made an indirect claim about John Stones and £27m Arsenal player

Rio Ferdinand has suggested that one particular Arsenal player is better than Manchester City defender John Stones.

After playing a big role in seeing the Blues win the Treble last season, the Englishman has had a difficult campaign this time around having struggled with fitness issues that have kept him out of the team at times.

Despite that, the 30-year-old still helped his side win their fourth Premier League title in a row and his sixth since joining the club back in 2016.

However, with the season now over, one pundit and former top-flight star has made an indirect claim about Stones and an Arsenal player who was also looking to win the Premier League this season.

In a recent video shared on the GOAL TikTok channel, Ferdinand was asked to stay quiet until he heard the name of who he feels is the best centre-back in the Premier League right now.

After the presenter named Stones, Ferdinand remained quiet and then broke that silence when William Saliba was named.

Saliba’s impressive season

In his latest Premier League campaign for the Gunners, Saliba, who Arsenal paid £27m to sign back in 2019, played every minute of their 38 games.

Across those games, the Frenchman made more recoveries (213) than any other player at the club as well as racking up the second-highest total of clearances (81) and second-highest passing accuracy percentage (92.4%).

Saliba’s performances in the league this season earned him a spot in the nominations for the Premier League Player of the Season award, which was ultimately won by Phil Foden.

With that in mind and the fact that injury and form issues led to Stones making just 16 league appearances this season for City, it’s easy to see why Ferdinand has claimed that Saliba is not only better than the Englishman but also the best centre-back in England at the moment.
