Celtic youngster gets surprise invite after loan spell impresses national boss

The international scene is set to take over the footballing calendar with the Celtic fans holding a vested interest in Euro 2024.

The tournament is being held in Germany and kicks off with Scotland taking on the hosts in what should be a great occasion after COVID hampered the last one.

In the Scotland team, Callum McGregor will take his usual place and the Celtic captain will, hopefully, be joined by Greg Taylor, Anthony Ralston and James Forrest.

And whilst the focus will be on them, it is worth remembering that other Celtic players will be on duty for their country in June.

However, there is a Celtic youngster who has been given a call after his form whilst out on loan last season impressed one national boss.

Bosun Lawal gets international ‘invite’

The young Celtic B prospect spent all of last season on loan at Fleetwood Town. Signed by Scott Brown, Lawal flourished under the Celtic legend and then under current boss, Charlie Adam.

And as a reward for that fine form, The Herald reports that Lawal has been invited to the Republic of Ireland training camp where he will join Liam Scales and Adam Idah this summer after impressing interim boss, John O’Shea.

Lawal made 47 appearances for Fleetwood last season and was a big hit with the fans of the League One side.

Used as a utility player, Lawal played as a centre-back, central midfielder, right back and even as a left-back in his season-long loan.

And although he couldn’t prevent Fleetwood’s relegation to League Two, the on-loan Celtic youngster has clearly done enough to catch the eye of the Republic of Ireland boss.

With an ambition to make an impact at Celtic next season, young Lawal has the perfect opportunity to show Brendan Rodgers that he has the confidence and ability to take the next step in his career if he performs well at the Ireland training camp.

This is one we will keep a close eye on as Lawal is one of the most highly-rated youngsters to come out of the Celtic Academy.
