'Almost there': £16m Nottingham Forest star raves about Nuno Espirito Santo, shares how the squad feels

Nuno Espirito Santo has been praised by a Nottingham Forest player who excelled under him during the second half of 2023/24.

The 50-year-old replaced Steve Cooper in January and he led Forest to survival and another season in the Premier League.

Now, he will hope to get the chance to have a full pre-season with his own squad and stamp his authority on managing the team.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Espirito Santo might not be at Forest next season but it would be a risk to send him on his way.

Now, one of his star players has praised the head coach and it’s clear that the team enjoy working with him at the City Ground.

What Danilo has said about Nuno Espirito Santo

The head coach achieved his remit last season in keeping Forest in the Premier League but Evangelos Marinakis will want more next season.

Danilo has hinted that he’s the man to revive Forest and clearly, he’s a huge fan of Espirito Santo.

In an interview with The Athletic, he said: “He is a great guy, he knows what he wants us to do on the pitch; he has a very specific style. He wants us to have more of the ball, he wants us to play forward and be attack-minded.

“Working with him, he introduced his style into the way we play. We are almost there when it comes to how he wants us to play.

“Given everything that has happened, we have done well. In the dressing room, we have always been focused and happy. There has never been anyone with a sad face.

“The coach can only pick 11 players, but we have a strong friendship on and off the pitch (even among those who don’t play). That has been at the heart of our good performances.”

Espirito Santo deserves chance to stay at Forest

As an experienced head coach, Forest look to be in safe hands with Espirito Santo at the helm.

Okay, he’s made mistakes during his time in charge of the club but he was also dealt a pretty bad hand.

He’s been forced to contend with a number of wrong VAR decisions, a four-point deduction and half of his starting eleven heading off the African Cup of Nations for a month.

As a result, Forest would be wise to give him a full pre-season to stamp his authority on the squad.

With the right backing Espirito Santo can really get Forest firing and hopefully, the club doesn’t make any hasty calls on his future.
