We have another update on the Scottie Scheffler-LMPD situation, and hopefully, it is the final one in the story. Today, criminal charges were dropped against Scheffler in connection with the traffic incident that occurred early in the morning at the entrance to Louisville’s Valhalla Golf Club before the second round of the PGA Championship. During a Wednesday court hearing in Louisville, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell asked that the charges against Scheffler be dismissed with prejudice, meaning they can’t be brought up again. Jefferson District Court Judge Anne Delahanty accepted the motion, thus closing the case forever.
O’Connell told the court:
“Based upon the totality of the evidence, my office cannot move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr. Scheffler. Mr. Scheffler’s characterization that this was a ‘big misunderstanding’ is corroborated by the evidence. The evidence we reviewed supports the conclusion that Detective Gillis was concerned for public safety at the scene when he initiated contact with Mr. Scheffler. However, Mr. Scheffler’s actions and the evidence surrounding their exchange during this misunderstanding do not satisfy the elements of any criminal offenses.”
