'It was awesome': Inter Miami star now likened to MLS legend Ignacio Piatti after what happened vs Vancouver

An Inter Miami star has now been likened to MLS legend Ignacio Piatti after what happened against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday.

The Herons secured another big win on the road as Inter Miami registered a 2-1 win in British Columbia in one of the longest away trips in MLS this season, a feat done without the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

With Inter Miami’s two superstar attackers out of action, Tata Martino had to rely on his supporting act to get the job done, with Leonardo Campana and Robert Taylor doing just that with two fine goals from the attacking pair.

And MLS expert Matt Doyle noticed one thing about one of Inter Miami’s goalscorers.

Robert Taylor compared to Piatti after Inter Miami win vs Vancouver

Speaking on MLS Extratime, Taylor’s performance was likened to CF Montreal legend Piatti, who in five years in MLS established himself as one of the best players in the division and an icon in Canada.

Indeed, comparisons to a player as good as Piatti is high praise for Taylor, who in the coming weeks will emerge as one of Inter Miami’s key forwards with Messi and Suarez away on international duty.

Doyle said when asked about Taylor’s performance against the Whitecaps on the weekend: “It looked like a pattern from one of those classic Nacho Piatti goals.

“For four, five years straight, Piatti would overperform his underlying numbers because he had this one move where he was able to cut in from the left-wing with his right-foot and pick out the back of the net. He would score that six times a year, and Robert Taylor did that, and it was awesome.”

Taylor can thrive as Inter Miami’s main man next month

With Messi and Suarez competing in the Copa America, next month will be all about Inter Miami’s underappreciated players stepping up for the attacking duo to keep their top spot in MLS alive.

And for Taylor, the forward will want to do just that, with the attacker enjoying his best game of the season on Saturday in Vancouver with the winger eager to get going again with two more fixtures this week.

With Campana also finding his form, Taylor could be about to enjoy his best stretch of form yet in MLS, with Inter Miami ready to show they are just more than Messi and Suarez.
