Toddler in critical condition after nearly drowning in pool at N.J. home

A toddler is in the hospital in critical condition after almost drowning in a residential pool over the weekend, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said on Wednesday.

Police responded to a home in South Plainfield on Saturday at 7:36 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting that the child was found in the pool and was not breathing, officials said. First responders performed CPR on the two-year-old boy on the scene before he was transported to Hackensack Meridian Health JFK University Medical Center.

The boy remains in the hospital and is currently listed in critical condition, prosecutors said. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The South Plainfield Police Department is asking anyone with information to call Detective Craig Magnani at 908-226-7682.
