‘Actually’: Simon Donnelly shares what he’s heard on the recent rumour about Kyogo Furuhashi leaving Celtic

As it’s the close season, Celtic fans will need to put up with a lot of rumours surrounding their current players possibly leaving and potential new Brendan Rodgers signings.

This part of the year is probably the busiest for us on 67 Hail Hail as we attempt to bring you all the up-to-date news of everything that is going on at the club.

And there was one big rumour that grabbed the headlines yesterday that suggested Celtic hero, Kyogo Furuhashi, could return to Japan this summer.

The Japanese striker has been a huge hit at Celtic since signing back in 2021. With 73 goals in 133 appearances, of course there will be clubs interested in signing him. [Transfermarkt]

But on this occasion, it looks like this may be a rumour we can put to bed. I’ll let Simon Donnelly explain.

Donnelly rubbishes Kyogo ‘source’

As is always the case with rumours, it’s important to establish whether or not the person sharing it is a reliable source.

As every Celtic fan knows, if every transfer rumour about the players were written about, there simply wouldn’t be enough time in the day to cover other news about the club.

Which is why, when asked, Donnelly was quite open about sharing what he’s heard about the person who started the Kyogo rumour.

Donnelly said [Superscoreboard], “Actually, I follow a guy on Twitter [X] who proved that earlier, said the source wasn’t reliable because I’d obviously seen that.

“You wouldn’t want to see Kyogo go.

“I think he’s still got a lot to offer. He didn’t have the best of games at the weekend, that can happen.

“But I’d like to see Kyogo hang about for a wee bit longer.”

Look, we all know who the source is and for those who don’t, a quick search on social media channel X will bring it up.

Whether or not the account is credible or not I will leave it up to you to decide but in my opinion, I can’t see Kyogo going anywhere this summer.

If the Japanese striker had designs on moving back to his homeland then he wouldn’t have committed to a new four-year deal last summer.

Like I said, there are a raft of rumours that will come our way. Some we will cover, some we won’t.

One thing is for sure, it’s going to be a busy summer ahead as Brendan Rodgers looks to put his own stamp on this Celtic side.
