‘They don’t care’: Charles Leclerc shares what he 'hates' after seeing his rating for new F1 24 game

The F1 24 game is set to be released to the general public on Friday and one of the most interesting features is to see how each driver is rated each year.

Even though it makes no impact on what’s going on in the real world, there is a sense of pride for the drivers to see how their skills are represented.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was among the numerous drivers asked to guess and react to their ratings on Formula 1’s official YouTube channel.

Leclerc was tasked with predicting teammate Carlos Sainz’s ratings and vice versa.

The scores given to each driver mainly consider last season’s performance and so his victory in Monaco on Sunday hasn’t played a part.

Each driver is ranked on four attributes: experience, pace, awareness and racecraft before being given an overall ranking.

As the drivers revealed their ratings one by one, Leclerc declared that he hated his pace attribute in F1 24.

The Monegasque is undeniably one of the fastest drivers on the grid, but the game doesn’t necessarily agree.

Charles Leclerc hated his pace rating in new F1 24 game

The issue for Leclerc is that the team game’s creators – EA Sports – would have used last year’s results and performances to create their ratings for this year’s game.

Last year, Leclerc finished 5 in the Drivers’ Championship with four drivers heading into the final Grand Prix hoping to finish in the top four of the championship.

Leclerc finished runner-up to Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi and ended up level on points with Fernando Alonso, but was ranked below the Spaniard on countback.

This year, Alonso hasn’t been in the conversation at the top of the standings, with Ferrari and McLaren now legitimate rivals to Red Bull who were unstoppable last year.

Based on his form this season, Leclerc could make an argument that he’s one of the quickest drivers on the grid.

Martin Brundle even said towards the end of last year that he’s arguably even faster than Max Verstappen over one lap.

However, after seeing his pace rating in F1 24, Leclerc declared that he hated the game’s suggestion that he wasn’t one of the fastest drivers on the grid.

F1 24 gives a harsh rating to Charles Leclerc

In the video, Leclerc predicted that Sainz would be rated 89 for pace and Sainz believed his teammate would earn a 93.

However, when their scores were revealed, Sainz received an 88 and Leclerc only an 89.

After seeing this, Leclerc said: “Oh that is very disappointing!”

Sainz replied: “This is a disaster, Charles!”

Leclerc commented: “This I hate, this I hate! You rate me as fast, they don’t care! EA thinks I am nowhere.”

Leclerc’s fury at his pace rating should be given some context compared to his competition on the grid.

His rating of 89 puts him below Fernando Alonso, Lando Norris and Max Verstappen and is only marginally better than George Russell’s and Alex Albon’s score.

It still puts him among the best drivers on the grid, but he clearly felt he deserved much better.

Thankfully, he won’t be too fussed about that figure considering he’s already a race winner in 2024 and Verstappen’s closest rival in the Drivers’ Championship.
