Report: Manchester United weigh up summer bid to sign 'fantastic' £25m Chelsea player

Manchester United are reportedly considering making a bid this summer to sign a Chelsea first-team player.

If you rewind to last summer’s transfer window, one of the big stories was Mason Mount’s £55m move (Sky Sports) from Chelsea to Man United.

It now sounds like the Manchester giants could try repeat that trick again by bringing another Blues star to Old Trafford.

Manchester United thinking about bidding for Chelsea player

The Independent has now claimed that Man United are considering a swoop for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.

It is explained that the Blues are willing to sell Chalobah or Conor Gallagher this summer because they’re both academy graduates that would help comply with profit and sustainability rules by 30 June.

The report says that Man United are weighing up a bid for versatile defender Chalobah, who’s impressive as both a centre-half and right-back.

Apparently, Chelsea would demand around £25m for their English star.

Trevoh Chalobah sale would be crushing

If Chelsea have financially backed themselves into a corner where it means they must sell one of their academy graduates to dig themselves out, they do deserve the criticism that will face them from fans.

In the case of Chalobah, there’s no way he should be sold when you’re looking solely for footballing reasons.

The central defender is as consistent as it gets on the pitch. In fact, you could argue he was the standout Blues player at the back in the final couple of months of last season.

He’s got the pace, strength and composure to be an important defensive figure in any Premier League team.

Described as “fantastic” by Frank Lampard last year (Football.London), Chalobah would quietly be a really shrewd pick up from Man United if they decide to ramp up their interest with an offer.

There should be a big concern about Chelsea’s backline if Chalobah follows Thiago Silva out of the exit doors at the same time.
