‘Last summer’: Vinicius Jr asked Real Madrid to sign £30m player from Liverpool last year – journalist

Vinicius Jr requested a signing from Liverpool at Real Madrid last summer.

Indeed, speaking on The Transfers Podcast, Brazilian journalist, Julio Gomes Filho has been discussing Real Madrid’s transfer policies, and he claims that Vinicius Jr requested that Los Blancos sign Roberto Firmino last summer when his Liverpool contract was up.

Madrid did take that suggestion on board, understanding that it would be a good move, but, for some reason, the Spanish giants didn’t push ahead with the deal, believing that they already had too many Brazilians in the squad.

Vinicius Jr asked for Roberto Firmino to be signed

Filho spoke about how Vinicius asked Real Madrid to sign the £30m Liverpool player last summer.

“Last year, last summer, Vinicius asked the club to sign Bobby Firmino from Liverpool on free agency. The club understood it would be a good move, but eventually they didn’t sign him and went for Joselu because they were at their limits with Brazilians. Three or four you have to have, but five or six is too many, that’s a story someone inside Madrid told me,” Filho said.

Imagine Firmino at Real Madrid

Real Madrid didn’t go for Firmino, and that has worked out well seeing as they’re about to play in a Champions League final.

However, it’s hard not to salivate at the thought of Firmino playing in this Madrid team.

The Brazilian would’ve been perfect as a withdrawn striker feeding the likes of Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo on the wings, while Firmino would’ve worked brilliantly in tandem with Jude Bellingham bursting forward from the midfield into the attack as he has done so often this season.

Unfortunately, Firmino instead moved to Saudi Arabia where things haven’t quite gone to plan for the former Liverpool star.

Firmino would’ve been a brilliant signing for Real Madrid if they’d listened to Vinicius’ advice.
