'Wants him so badly’: Vice-chairman says he's desperate to sign Man City-owned player for his club

A vice-chairman of a Championship club has said that his side are eager to land a deal for one Manchester City player this summer.

The Manchester club have loaned numerous players out to a wide variety of clubs over recent years.

For example, the previous summer transfer window saw the likes of Joao Cancelo, James McAtee and Taylor Harwood-Bellis leave the Etihad Stadium on temporary deals.

Now that the latest season has ended and the next summer transfer window is around the corner, a key figure at a Championship club, for who one City player spent the recent season on loan, has been speaking about potentially landing a new deal for the player this time around.

Speaking in a recent interview with Hull Live, Hull City’s vice-chairman, Tan Kesler, had this to say when asked if bringing Liam Delap back to the club this summer is a realistic hope for them.

He said: Yes and no. The chairman [Acun Ilicali] wants him so badly. If we didn’t have Financial Fair Play (FFP) and EFL regulations he would have literally invested in him and tried to buy him.

“You know how he is, he’s very passionate for football, very passionate for improvement and we like him [Delap] so much.

“At the end of the day, he belongs to Man City and also he probably has his own agenda. We’ve been talking to his agent. I don’t see why not [sign him], but it has to make [financial] sense.

“We have to be able to spend money but also generate money for him. A loan back to us could be an option if Man City doesn’t sell him.”

When asked about recent reports claiming that City want £10m to sell Delap, had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I don’t know who mentions those numbers because we’ve inquired from Man City the sale price, but there’s not a set price on him in the market at the moment, so I think it’s more tabloids than realistic.”

Delap’s season on loan at Hull

The striker joined the Tigers on a season-long loan deal during the previous summer transfer window.

Unfortunately for the striker, a knee injury made him miss a large chunk of the campaign.

Despite that, the 21-year-old still made 31 appearances in the Championship, scoring eight goals and delivering two assists along the way.

Having earned himself the fourth-highest overall season rating in the Hull squad (6.81/10) according to WhoScored, it’s easy to see why Kesler has said the club would like to secure another deal for Delap this summer.
