'Wows me': Journalist claims O'Neil could sign Pedro Neto clone in 'gifted' £16m transfer target

Wolves could be at an advantage to sign one target this summer, with Gary O’Neil now told of how impactful the player in question could be.

Gary O’Neil will be eager to bolster his squad at Molineux this summer after guiding Wolves to a 14th-place finish in his debut season.

The manager improved a host of areas in and around the squad, seeing the Old Gold improve on their 2022/23 Premier League tally by five points, a feat that was achieved against the odds.

O’Neil arrived in the Midlands after Wolves’ squad was depleted due to the financial restraints of the 2023 transfer window, with the upcoming market being the perfect opportunity for the boss to replenish his side.

As the window approaches, speculation has started to grow, with one player who has been linked to the club presenting a tempting prospect to O’Neil based on his playing style.

Ramon Sosa could be a clone of Pedro Neto at Wolves

Wolves and Newcastle have been identified as the Premier League clubs interested in Talleres winger, Ramon Sosa, who could be available for around £16m this summer.

While the Magpies are involved in the reported interest, Paraguayan outlet Versus claimed that Wolves could be at an advantage if the rumours surrounding Sosa joining forces with Jorge Mendes are true.

Amid the speculation, Molineux News spoke to ESPN journalist and Paraguayan football expert, Roberto Rojas, who explained why the 24-year-old would be a good buy for the Premier League side.

“He’s been one of the best players in the league and considering his stock has never been higher, it would be time for him to make the next step in his career.

“He’s someone that at Talleres, is blessed with pace, the ability to pick out a pass and not afraid to take a shot on goal with the great control of the ball that he has.

“He can be multifunctional as both a left winger and left midfielder, playing on that side of the pitch is important for most Premier League clubs who rely on players playing in multiple positions, so I think him going to Wolves would be great for him to develop better as a footballer and help in attack for Gary O’Neil.”

Rojas went on to delve further into the wide player’s style of play, comparing the Paraguay international to Pedro Neto.

“I think Sosa really fits in that role of what Pedro Neto does. Quick, eye for goal, the intelligence to pick out passes and the ability to move around on the pitch to link up with further teammates.

“That level of unpredictability is what wows me and having the flair makes me have high hopes that Sosa can do it in the Premier League.

“He’s probably the most on-form Paraguayan player in the world at the minute and will be essential in attack for Paraguay at the upcoming Copa America.”

How does Ramon Sosa compare to Pedro Neto?

A right-footed left winger, Sosa could offer O’Neil a complete clone of Neto, who uses the same tactic on the opposite side, allowing him to cut inside and create chaos.

Lauded as ‘technically gifted’ by analyst Ben Mattinson, the Paraguayan could be the perfect match for Wolves, based on the levels he has been displaying with Talleres this season.

As seen above, Rojas’ comparison between Neto and Sosa rings true, with the duo’s statistics identifying identical strengths based on their respective 2023/24 league campaigns.

Interestingly, Sosa performed at a higher level than the Wolves favourite for Talleres, reinforcing just how much of a talent O’Neil could acquire if interest is to blossom this summer.

The deal could become particularly interesting in the instance that Neto remains at Wovles, amid speculation of his future, as the manager could unleash a front line constructed with two players capable of reaping havoc on the flank.
