Arteta's Arsenal transfer priority now revealed, signing him will be 'the difference' in title race

Mikel Arteta’s transfer priority for Arsenal has reportedly come to light with the Basque coach keen to make a signing that could make ‘the difference’ in next season’s title race.

The Gunners fell just short of the Premier League this year with Manchester City winning the title by two points as Pep Guardiola’s side became the first side in English history to win the top-flight four years in a row.

With the likes of Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice enjoying their most productive years in the Premier League, Arsenal will need to add more to their squad if they’re to eclipse City in next season’s title race.

And Arteta has reportedly laid out what he wants most this summer in the market.

Arteta to target new leading striker for Arsenal this summer

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Arteta will make signing a new striker Arsenal’s main target for the summer, with the Gunners already linked with a slew of names heading into next month’s window.

Benjamin Sesko has reportedly emerged as Arsenal’s leading contender for an attacking signing whilst Alexander Isak continues to be linked with the Gunners, with a big signing seemingly in the works.

Jacobs said when asked what Arteta will want to do first in the transfer window: “I still think it will be that traditional striker, only because they lacked one and that could be the difference between winning a Premier League and just missing out.

“They’re going to put a lot of time and energy into finding the right name, somebody who can be rigid and traditional, but also have that versatility aspect.”

Arsenal need to move fast if they’re to sign a new leading striker

With the transfer window days from opening and the 2024 Euros kicking off in two weeks, time is of the essence for Arsenal in their quest to sign a new striker.

And for Arteta, the north London manager will need to get a move on if he’s to land a new leading attacker for Arsenal, who could find themselves out of options if they’re slow off the mark.

Many big teams in Europe are in a similar situation to Arsenal in that strikers are in demand, and the Gunners have to ensure they find the right one quickly and before rivals clubs beat them to the punch.
