Brendan Rodgers delivers intriguing Celtic transfer observation ahead of the summer window

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has made an intriguing observation regarding potential transfer activity at Parkhead this summer.

Conceivably, movement in both directions will be expected as a shake-up occurs. Following his fairytale ending, Joe Hart has retired from football, leaving a void that must be filled between the sticks.

Hyeongyu Oh, Benjamin Siegrist, Yuki Kobayashi, Sead Haksabanovic and Gustaf Lagerbielke are among those who could also leave the club, freeing up space for prospective incomings under Rodgers.

Supporters are patiently waiting on updates surrounding loanees Adam Idah and Paulo Bernardo; however, Celtic are likely to face a waiting game as their parent clubs, Norwich City and Benfica, get their house in order, respectively.

Either way, plenty of excitement surrounds the upcoming window, and Rodgers has now shed some light on plans for the market period.

Brandan Rodgers on Celtic squad cycle and transfer plans

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rodgers stated: “I think there will be a natural change. The thing is we have players, some of them who will have been here for three years, and if you look at the cycle at Celtic then there is normally that change in that third year.

“So, it’s getting another step in the types of profiles that I would want within the squad to allow us to progress and to develop. But for this season, I’ve been really proud of the team and then come the summer, we will look to add those bits of quality.

“Obviously, we have got the likes of Joe (Hart) who’s retiring so we have to fill that void as well. But it’s a real bright future. We will take that into pre-season and then we will look to thrive from the beginning of next season.”

Celtic need to capitalise on their position of strength, which is aided considerably by their involvement in the new Champions League format next term.

More continental fixtures and TV revenue than ever before bring financial advantages, though competition will be fierce for quality players this summer, making it imperative that the recruitment department rigorously conducts due diligence on potential targets.

For now, supporters are set to enjoy a summer of bragging rights after their side claimed an impressive domestic double.

However, once the new campaign gets underway, they will be expecting Rodgers to acquire some high-calibre additions, make no mistake.
