Report: Tottenham want to sign £80m star who's one of the 'top two' in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur will be eager to bolster their ranks this summer in wake of a rollercoaster Premier League campaign under Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs finished fifth in the league to secure a spot in next season’s Europa League, though they had to wait until the final matchday to make sure.

Tottenham were impressive in the early stages of the campaign and looked like potential dark horses for the title ahead of Christmas.

Although they weren’t able to remain in the title picture, they stayed firmly in top-four contention until mid-April, when their form deserted them.

Nevertheless, Postecoglou has built some good foundations and there’s certainly scope to go much further next term.

Plenty of top players have been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks, including one who has been deemed one of the Premier League’s top talents.

The player in question is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, and CaughtOffside has now provided an update on his future amid links with Spurs.

What has been reported about Tottenham and Jarrad Branthwaite?

According to the outlet, Spurs are one of several Premier League clubs who admire the 21-year-old, alongside Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Everton are ready to sell Branthwaite this summer amid financial uncertainty at Goodison Park, added the report.

However, the Toffees are said to have placed an £80million price tag on the England Under-21 international, which is putting off suitors.

What has been said about Tottenham target Jarrad Branthwaite?

Branthwaite has been sensational for Everton this season, forging a strong understanding with James Tarkowski in the heart of the Blues defence.

“This guy is a superstar,” Jamie Carragher said on Monday Night Football earlier this year.

“For a centre-back to control that with his right foot, he is a two-footed player, the control with the right foot being a delicate touch with players around him and then to finish with the left just highlights again how strong Everton are from set pieces.”

Meanwhile, Blues teammate Vitaliy Mykolenko recently told Tribuna: “If you put our Branthwaite and Zabarnyi in a pair, they can be signed for 15 years without transfers to the club.

“One is left central, the second is right – there is speed, there is everything. Either one or the other is very calm.

“I’m delighted with our central defender. He has already scored three this season. These are the top two for me.”

We’ve all seen what Branthwaite can do in the Premier League, and he’d no doubt be an incredible signing for Spurs.

However, central defence may not necessarily be a priority for Tottenham, so we’ll have to see how much they’d be willing to spend for the Everton ace.
