Northwestern revealed a conceptual image of its temporary lakeside football stadium, which is set to host games in the 2024 and ’25 season.
The season ticket holders were the first to see the image. It is a unique stadium that could draw eyeballs to the program this fall.
Northwestern’s field can be seen below, via ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.
“Northwestern is sending a conceptual image of its temporary lakeside football stadium, which will host games in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, to season-ticket holders today,” Rittenberg wrote on Twitter. “The image shows general concepts behind the facility, which is being designed and built by InProduction.
“Certain elements behind the facility, including with technology and fan experience, are still being designed. The facility will seat approximately 15,000, and seat selection will begin June 10. Coaches’ booths, press box will be on the West side of the stadium.”
The school announced plans to “stay home” back in April while a brand new stadium is built. The football team will play a majority of its games this coming season at the Lanny and Sharon martin athletics facility near Lake Michigan on Northwestern’s Evanston campus.
“I am thrilled that we could make this happen. It’s truly a win for our community,” President Michael Schill said. “In addition to creating a wonderful fan experience in the lead-up to the opening of Ryan Field, hosting games on campus will reduce the travel burdens for our student-athletes and fans and will make games much more accessible. We also are pleased to keep the economic benefits of football gamedays in Evanston.”
The emphasis for Northwestern was to play at a scenic location.
“To be able to play these games on campus is a huge advantage for our football program and will be a great benefit to our reigning national champion and top-ranked lacrosse team and both the women’s and men’s soccer programs,” Combe Family Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Dr. Derrick Gragg said. “We look forward to welcoming fans and the entire Northwestern community to this beautiful area of campus to cheer on our Wildcat student-athletes.”
