Ruud van Nistelrooy could soon link up with Premier League winner who ended 12-year record he set at Man Utd

Former PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy could soon be managing the man responsible for breaking the 12-year Premier League record he set during his time at Manchester United.

Ruud van Nistelrooy had a prolific impact during his time in England after Manchester United signed him from PSV Eindhoven in 2001.

The 47-year-old former United striker was a key target for Sir Alex Ferguson in 2000 before his move to Old Trafford collapsed due to a failed medical.

Sir Alex Ferguson finally landed Van Nistelrooy for a British record transfer fee of £19m at the time, with the United legend enjoying a superb spell under the Scot.

Van Nistelrooy scored an incredible 150 times in 219 appearances for United under legendary former Red Devils boss Ferguson.

The Dutchman, who lifted a Premier League, a League Cup and an FA Cup, left United after five seasons after his relationship with Ferguson fractured at the time.

Van Nistelrooy went on to sign for Real Madrid in 2006 and lifted two La Liga titles before he left the Spanish club and went on to play for Hamburg and Malaga.

Van Nistelrooy tipped for management return

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who retired from football in 2012, entered the world of coaching and took his first steps into management with PSV Eindhoven.

The Manchester United legend became PSV manager in 2022 and led the Eredivisie side to the Dutch Cup in his debut season at the club.

However, Van Nistelrooy made his exit from PSV before the end of the 2022-23 campaign after he felt a “lack of support within the club.”

The former Netherlands striker has been out of management since his spell with PSV, but Van Nistelrooy has been tipped to make his return to the dugout.

According to reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Van Nistelrooy is now ‘considered as an option’ to succeed Enzo Maresca as Leicester City manager.

Enzo Maresca was appointed Leicester City boss in 2023 and successfully led the club to the Championship trophy in his debut season.

But the 44-year-old Italian is now tipped to leave the Premier League club and become the new Chelsea manager after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked.

Sacha Tavolieri wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Van Nistelrooy is now in the running for the head coach role for the recently promoted Leicester City.

Van Nistelrooy to meet man who broke his record?

Jamie Vardy secured Leicester’s return to the Premier League after he scored twice in the 3-0 away win against Preston, with the Foxes securing the Championship title.

The 37-year-old Leicester striker is the man responsible for breaking Van Nistelrooy’s record that the Dutchman set during his time at United.

Van Nistelrooy scored in 10 consecutive Premier League matches in 2003, which was a record he held for 12 years before Jamie Vardy eclipsed his goalscoring feat.

Vardy was in the form of his life in the 2015-16 season and the former England striker played a key part in Leicester’s famous Premier League title win.

The Leicester City legend broke Van Nistelrooy’s record and became the first player in history to score in 11 consecutive Premier League matches in 2015.

Vardy achieved the feat after he scored in a 1-1 draw against United at the King Power Stadium, with Van Nistelrooy paying tribute to him at the time.

“Well done vardy7! [sic] You’re number one now and you deserved it. #11inarow,” Van Nistelrooy wrote on X.
