'Then take the freakin' stand!' 'Worked up' analyst destroys Trump's rigged trial claim

Former FBI general counsel and prosecutor Andrew Weissmann got "worked up" after Donald Trump spoke out against the verdict in his New York trial.

Trump railed against the jurors, implying that they were incapable of rendering a legitimate verdict because they weren't his supporters.

Weissmann summed up Trump's statement by saying the ex-president was saying that people "act out of self-interest, and jurors can't be trusted unless they're MAGA Republicans.' That is essentially what he's saying, that the 'jury of my peers' has to be people who voted for me."

He noted that the idea was rejected by Robert Mueller, where Weissmann also served as a top prosecutor. He revealed that "the constant refrain was you don't want to be in D.C. Which was code for 'we don't want a Black juror.' We want to be [in a] White venue with Republicans."

It was rejected in that case, just as it was with Watergate, too, he noted.

"That is not how the justice system works," he said. "It's so defunct of citizens, people that is the way the system works. It is also so dismissive of citizens of people, and that is the way our system works. You can't just say that judges did this. These were people from the community who made this choice."

Trump isn't required to testify against himself, an animated Weissmann explained, "but when he comes out and says thingsare rigged, and that is now in a political arena, the answer to him in the political arena is, 'You know what, then you could have taken the stand and you wanted them to hear your voice? Take the freaking stand!"

He said that Trump never testified in either impeachment or the E. Jean Carroll case. The only time he testified was in the sentencing hearing of Carroll. EAch of them he called a "rigged process."

"Don't tell me about this being a rigged process when you didn't stand up and refute Michael Cohen!" Weissmann exclaimed.

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace pointed out that Weissmann isn't known for "getting worked up by many things, but this assault, the smear against the rule of law, gets to you like nothing else."
