Registration has opened for Cambridge’s ever-popular Bridge the Gap walk in aid of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill.
Taking place on the morning of Sunday, 15 September, the family-friendly event will begin and end on Parker’s Piece and follow a new route, going behind the gates and into the grounds of seven University of Cambridge colleges.
Early bird booking of £16 per person is available for a limited time only at arhc.org.uk/btg, and up to three under-16s can enjoy the walk for every paying adult.
More than 1,350 walkers took part in Bridge the Gap last year, raising £27,700 that was shared equally by the two charities.
The Cambridge Building Society returns for the 16th year as headline sponsor, and once again the Cambridge Independent and Cambridge 105 Radio are supporting the walk as event partners.
The event is also sponsored by TTP Group, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, and Cambridge City Rotary Club.
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity deputy chief executive Sara Robins said: “Bridge the Gap is a wonderful event, offering a unique experience for walkers, taking in seven of the city’s historic colleges in a single route, specifically designed for the event.
“We are really looking forward to Sunday, 15 September, when we hope to see many of our loyal supporters of the event, as well as those taking part for the first time.
“The money raised will go a long way to ensuring our two charities can continue to do the vital work that the local community has come to expect from us.”
Since it launched in 2001, more than 47,000 walkers have helped to raise more than £690,000 for charity by taking part in Bridge the Gap.
This year’s route, which will be wheelchair and pushchair-friendly, is due to be revealed soon.
More than 120 volunteers will guide and assist the walkers, and will run the all-important cake tent at Parker’s Piece, where live acoustic music will be performed.
Romsey Mill chief executive Neil Perry said: “I love the way that Bridge the Gap brings together local people, businesses, and community groups to enjoy some of the amazing sights that Cambridge’s colleges have to offer, whilst benefiting two excellent local charities at the same time. Bridge the Gap is a unique and special family-friendly event. And I’m really excited about what the walk has to offer to everyone who takes part this year.”
