There are some foods that are just so American. Peanut butter and jelly, ranch dressing and… pimento cheese!
The cheese spread made with mayonnaise and pimentos is popular in the South, and a British guy has just tried it for the first time.
British guy tries pimento cheese
“I’ve been given something that I’ve been told is one of the most American foods,” Josh said in a viral TikTok video. “We do not have this in the UK but I’m gonna try it for the first time today.”
He then pulled out a portion of pimento cheese in a cupcake case which he picked up at a party and was a bit put off by the way it looked, but all of that changed when he took his first bite.
The basic recipe includes grated cheddar cheese, mayonnaise and chopped pimentos mixed into a chunky paste. However, people often add horseradish, jalapeño, hot sauce, cayenne pepper, paprika, onions, garlic and dill pickles.
It’s typically served with crackers and vegetables as a dip, or used as a spread in sandwiches.
“Wow,” he said in awe. “I don’t know how this is made. What is this? Mmmmm. I’ve got to go and get some more.”
He was left completely speechless and said: “America, you do the best foods.”

The dish actually originated in the Northern United States in the early 20th century, made by mixing chopped pimento peppers with soft cheese like Neufchatel or cream cheese.
After World War II, it declined in popularity everywhere except the South, so it has since been associated with Southern culture.
Pimento cheese sandwiches also have a long history of being served at the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Georgia.
